This project requires us to create a logo for a key chain or to design an everyday product that would fit in our bags. There are only 3 materials with size limitations we can choose from and we were given a week to finish this assignment.

My idea was to create a logo with a keychain that wouldn’t just be a simple square, rectangle or circle. A design that shows of my name in a different perspective. ( eg. the design may look soft, sharp or powerful)

This was my first ideation. I wrote my name multiple times in different fonts and styles until I had enough variation to choose which one I thought would stand out the most. I also included shapes of the keychains in my ideation drawing as it was part making this logo unique.

There were time where I couldn’t think of anything else so there were similar patterns such as the two round key chains at the very top. I also took some idea from my already drawn example as you can see from the bottom design where I combined two design to make something in between.

These were small changes and exploration which I did from a logo and a keychain in my ideation above. I have notes on things I could change which would then change how I looked at the final keychain.

From my exploration above, this was my final choice.

I briefly showed the meaning or how my logo was designed. I combined all the letters in my name to create a very sharp and powerful look while maintaining the simplicity on this specific design. The logo itself looked like a crown in my eyes which is why it looked somewhat powerful. And due to the sharpness of the lines and the precision of each line, it is very clear and clean. I chose the sharp edges rather than the other options due to these reasonings. I kept the hooks’ corners round so they don’t accidentally hurt anyone. I also kept the top part round as I thought it looked better that way. You can see the the keychain hole is more like an oblong shape rather than a circle. I thought that this way I could use a variety of key chains shapes and sizes. I have chose the key chain that is shaped like an L for obvious reasons. I have tons of keychains that I put my keys or other items in and a lot of times when things becomes hectic, I would dangle my keys on my fingers to try and do other stuff such as search my bag for other items that may have lost. In my experience, keychains that has key rings or just a hook is very helpful and useful when it comes to those times as I don’t need to hold the keys but instead just use the hooks to dangle between my fingers.

You can tell by my other designs that I was trying to create a keychain that specifically has a hook made into it. However, I chose this one out of all because it has that feature and also because of the L.

This was my final measurement and what the final design would look like. I decided to use acrylic for this as I thought it would look a lot nicer and would be very fitting for the clean and simplicity image.

I did my final and the final laser cutting design on Adobe Illustration.

As for my reflection, next time I’m given a chance to do such a project again, I think I should do more research about keychains or logos before starting up. Although I did a very vague research on how keychains look and the type of keychains, I didn’t really use a specific idea or inspirations. Instead I went ahead and drew simple things using common knowledge. I think I could have designed and done more and maybe if I had more time, I could have had more ideas and could have improved my final design. Although I’m happy with my design, I think I could have done better and could have designed something more eye catching and unique.

This was a great experience to have and I would definitely try and use Adobe illustrator more as it was also very much a struggle to create such a simple design using that website. If my design was a little more complicate, I would have panicked and possibly messed up as working with AI was very much stressful and I would say it was the most time consuming part.
