This design requires us to create an idea based on our ‘How might we’ question in the previous blog post. Using many ideas and trials, we are to build three prototypes of the ideas and take in feedback from users to decide on a final one.

30+ INITIAL IDEAS

We were to either draw, write or express our ideas in any way, it didn't need to be completed but the idea was to be shown and explored. This was my attempt to show what I could be designing or what I aim to design for my final approach.

These were my initial ideas. I have drawn some of the main designs or what could potentially be the final one and I have written some things that could be improved or change on the specific ideas.

3 CHOSEN IDEA

We then had to choose 3 Ideas that we could explore and improve. These three would then lead to the final product.

I have chosen an app, desk and routine. These three were very vague and could help solve the problem of my client if designed properly.

An app has all sorts of function and features that could provide different solution for the clients. It could help with their lack of motivations, procrastination or disorganisations. However, a big consequences will be the usage of an app in general. If the client had problems with procrastinating, it might not be the best option to let them use their phone right before studying or cleaning as they might get distracted.

The desk is more practical, less distracting and could definitely help with organisation and keeping the place tidy. There are a lot to keep in mind, such as the placing or the size of the desk or where the light could be coming from. The desk also seems to be very closed in and considering other clients that are claustrophobic, it could be very bad.

Routines seems very easy to create and could be very helpful if it could be done constantly. However, with the clients' issue with procrastination, it could be hard for them to constantly follow.

  • IMPROVEMENTS

APP

- More function

- Easier to use

- Not time consuming or distraction

DESK

- Could be suffocating

- Too much?

- Too common/ordinary

ROUTINE

- Not easy to follow

- No time

- May not follow it

PROTOTYPES

  • PRODUCT QUESTIONINGS

Is it possible to build?

- Is it possible to create a perfect solution

- Would using an app end up distracting clients

- Is there an advance desk that could possible clean itself

What would it look like?

- A bunch of ideas and sections for an app?

--> quotes, mood board

- Would too much space look 'too much'

Would the app be too complicated

Is the routine too much

How does it perform?

- Did it work

- Did she follow the routine or end up parting ways

- Did she used her organiser bins properly

- Did the app distract her as she was using her phone

Our next step was to create a prototype of our three chose ideas and show how it may work and be helpful towards our client. These questions can help create better prototypes that can counter the problems that our clients may have.

- App

This is what I had in my mind for the app. There are 6 different feature that could be use in the app. There's quotes, Inspirations (inspos) and Mood boards to help the client with motivation and to strengthen their focus using word of affirmations or just varieties of images that would usually help them, whether it's aesthetic wise or not. The reminder are there so that the are less likely to procrastinate as it will constantly remind them about their due dates and their goals on when to finish it. I was thinking, they could also put this on their lock screen so that they will be reminded of it every time they turn their phones on and off. The planner is for an everyday usage. This could help the client have a better time management so that they can balance fun out of school and school studies. If they can get use to planning things better, they are more likely to be more productive. The timer is for when they do decide to study. Being overworked will give them a hard time and create a lot of stress so this timer will remind them to only study for a certain amount of time and allows them to take a break for a few minute before they can go back to studying. This way, it gives them enough time to regain their focus and concentrate on their work properly as they won't end up straining or over using their brain.

- Desk

This is my next prototype, desk. As you can tell, I have tried designing this desk with a lot of organisers and space. However, it does look too much and could feel like its closing in on the client which I had to keep my mind on. I questioned a few people about this desk and the common problem was the closed space and there might not be enough desk space for them to work on.

- Routine

My main problem with creating a routine was the client's incapability of following the routine and just putting it aside. I have again gathered some thoughts for this prototype, a lot have said that since there were no consequences if they didn't follow the routine, they are more likely to just ignore and forget about it. Which will not end up helping my client.

FINAL CONCEPT

My final design that I have chose is the desk. It was more practical for the client and I did ask about her thoughts on the options and she said the desk would be more helpful than the rest. I plan to make more changes on the desk to encourage the client to be more productive and clean. Some changes with structures to make it less stressful or closed in.

REFLECTION

I could have balanced my time more and spent more time on this project, if I did so then I think I could have put in more detail of each products and ideas. I could have also made the surveys or taken in peoples opinion a little better and clearer.
